About the Television Series
The Napa Valley is America’s mecca for food and wine
lovers as well as home to some of its finest chefs. It is
the country’s top culinary destination and California’s
second largest tourist destination. No wonder that many of
Napa Valley’s chefs have achieved national recognition.
These chefs have developed their own distinctive version
of California Cuisine, sharing the affinity for fresh, seasonal
ingredients, but taking it a step further; many of the restaurants
grow their own produce. But the single most important distinction
of “wine country cuisine,” as it has come to be
known, is the marriage of food and wine. Wine and food pairing
has become an art form. And wine is a common ingredient in
recipes – often surprisingly so.
The Chefs of Napa Valley is a television series
designed to bring wine country cuisine into the hearts and
kitchens of America’s home chefs. This series celebrates
the preparation of good food, the simple enhancement of the
freshest ingredients. The chefs featured in this series are
among the best in the world, and our focus is on their skill
and creativity, the true secrets to great meals. Serious cooking
show fans will appreciate the care taken to guide them through
the journey of master chef cooking. Take the combination of
world-class chefs, outstanding restaurants and the stunning
backdrop of California’s Napa Valley and you have the
makings of a truly entertaining and elegant cooking series.
Episodes are based in the kitchen with frequent excursions
to food purveyors including Hog Island Oyster Company, Bellwether
Farms and the Scharffen Berger Chocolate Factory. And, often
there are special guests on set to assist chefs with specialty
foods.
The show is a comfortable blend of “how to” (the
chef in a kitchen demonstrating cooking techniques to the
camera) and “why” (documentary style interviews
with the chef). The interspersing of these two styles creates
a compelling pace that is unique and interesting.
